The Catering & Hospitality Skillnets is funded through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment from the National Training Fund.

The initial target group is those who manage, supply and operate catering services for contract, healthcare catering facilities and hotels. This group has a high number of entry level catering staff with little or no formal qualifications. This would include companies that have a desire to up-skill their serving staff, their kitchen staff and their porter staff. This up-skilling will result in gains for the individual, the company and the industry as a whole. The target group was then extended to include enterprises in the hospitality sector such as hotels and restaurants. The Catering & Hospitality Steering Group felt that this group had to be aided as they face the same challenges with entry level staff and by including them the Skillnets program could assist in raising the standards right across the hospitality sector.
